[Build Complete] $600 upgrade

So it was about time to do another upgrade. The last full build I did was back in September of 2009 where I got a Phenom II x4 945 @ 3GHz. While it was an amazing chip and I was able to overclock it to 3.4 GHz (this was a non-black edition) it just couldn't keep up with some newer titles like BF4 and Guild Wars 2. I upgraded my GPU to the 7870 XT back in April and with a mild overclock it still does an amazing job. I was able to reuse quite a bit from my old build including RAM, PSU, and Heatsink.

Crappy cell phone pics
The first thing I noticed was the SSD. Damn does that make the OS fast. I should have gotten one sooner. Everything is snappier from launching apps to bootup. I no longer dread having to reboot my PC. The mobo also posts lightning fast to help reduce bootup times.
The case is great too. So much more room than my CM Storm Scout. With all the case fans going at max speed it was a little bit louder than my previous case but once I enabled the Asus Fan Xpert it slowed them all down so it was much quieter.
"AMD over Intel for gaming? YOU FOOL!" Yeah, well I've always appreciated AMD's performance per dollar. I'm betting that since both next gen consoles have 8-core AMD chips that game developers will really start utilizing extra threads. Being a Software Engineer myself I know how hard multi-threaded programming is but I think the Frostbite engine shows it possible.
Final note, I bought all this with Bitcoin. I did some lite GPU mining back in college and I have a few ASICMiner Block Erupters running. Bitcoin has reached a price where I felt comfortable cashing some in. Plus getting a new Chromebook for the wife helped sell her on the idea.

Help getting my khash/s up please ?

I recently started to mine Litecoin because i have a feeling there price will rise like bitcoin. So i now i wont get much but my plan is to leave my pc on overnight mining. The problem is I have a 7870 xt. This card is basically a 7950 because it has the same chipset as the 79xx series of cards. Yet I am only able to mine at 250khash/s, is this a normal speed ?
These are my settings in guiminer scrypt
Thread Concurrency - 8192 Vectors - 1 GPU threads - 1 Worksize - 256 Intensity - 16
Because this is just a side hobby and this computer is mainly my gaming rig I don't like high temps so don't like to push my card too much. The Pool I am using is Coinotron are there any that are better ?
Thanks for any help

Hi All, I'm looking to replace my 3+ year old desktop (Phenom II X4, Radeon 5750, 4GB RAM) with something a little more updated. I'm not looking to buy the best gaming PC money can buy, but I would like to see what people think. I'm in Ontario if that matters.
I already have an optical drive, OS, Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, an Intel 320 160GB SSD, and a WD Black HDD, so I've left those out. The hard drive in that list is to just swap into the old PC to keep it running.
I tend to play all kinds of games on the PC, and don't intend on doing any bitcoin mining or anything like that.
Any thoughts/suggestions you might have I'd love hear.

The time finally came to give up on upgrading my old rig, one running an Athlon 64 XII. One of my favorite things to do for a solid week back there was to look up comparisons between it and the 3770k - it was hard to even find the Athlon on the graph, given the curve the i7 was setting! I won't be overclocking for now, but probably will in a few years.
While I know the bitcoin mining game is pretty much diminishing returns at this point, I'd still like to stick with a Radeon over a GeForce so that I can keep this guy chugging away and making me back some pennies. I'll put Windows 8 on it (I have a license already) and will eventually add in some sound production peripherals down the line. Hoping to finally be able to play huge Civ 5 maps and start composing some music with Ableton. Maybe I'll even start doing some video editing again! It's like reuniting with old friends! That said, I'll take any tips you guys have for me, thanks!

[Build Ready] Well almost ready - Radeon + GeForce for non-gaming applications? Audio/Video/Mining/Gaming Rig, ~$1050

Hi all, I presented a version of this rig yesterday but thought of another question.

My new question is that I have an old EVGA GeForce 550 Ti that I'd like to reuse. I know I can't SLI/Crossfire the Radeon and the GeForce together, but a friend told me that I can still benefit from having both in at the same time for some purposes like bitcoin mining. While I know the bitcoin mining game is pretty much diminishing returns at this point, I'd still like to get a new Radeon over a new GeForce so that I can keep this guy chugging away and making me back some pennies. The idea is that eventually I'd make enough to replace the aging GeForce with another Radeon. But can I get the new Radeon to play nice with the old GeForce at all, even non-SLI/CrossFired?
I'll put Windows 8 on it (I have a license already) and will eventually add in some sound production peripherals down the line. Hoping to finally be able to play huge Civ 5 maps and start composing some music with Ableton. Maybe I'll even start doing some video editing again! It's like reuniting with old friends!
